What is Web Accessibility?

Web accessibility is a set of rules, behaviors, code standards, and design guidelines that are used to enable people with disabilities, which comprise 20% of the world’s population, to use websites effectively.

To achieve this, the W3C (The World Wide Web Consortium) has created the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1), which explain about and guide developers on how to make websites accessible. These guidelines have been adopted by governments around the world and are now a part of various legislations, such as the ADA, Section 508, EN 301549, and others.

The WCAG focuses mainly on three areas of accessibility: blind people using screen-readers (JAWS, NVDA), people with motor impairments who use only keyboards, and a variety of other disabilities such as color blindness, epilepsy, and minor visual impairments that are mainly focused on the UI and design of the website (color contrasts, animations, fonts, etc.)

Web accessibility (ADA) lawsuits and demand letters

  1. Number of lawsuits: In 2022, there were 3,255 ADA website accessibility lawsuits filed in federal court, a 12% increase from 2021. This is a record high for ADA website accessibility lawsuits.
  2. Number of demand letters: The number of ADA website accessibility demand letters sent to organizations is likely even higher than the number of lawsuits filed. This is because demand letters are often sent before a lawsuit is filed.
  3. Target industries: The most common targets for ADA website accessibility lawsuits are e-commerce companies. In 2022, 77% of all ADA website accessibility lawsuits were filed against e-commerce companies.
  4. Location of lawsuits: ADA website accessibility lawsuits are most commonly filed in New York, California, and Florida. This is because these states have a large number of businesses and a high population density.

Effortless implementation and remediation

Our team will install a JS code that scans, analyzes, and fixes accessibility compliance gaps in up to 48 hours. Upon implementation, your website's interface will allow people with disabilities to adjust your website according to their needs, without interfering with a website’s codebase, loading times, UI, or design.

Ongoing compliance

After the initial remediation, we will re-scan and re-analyze a website every 24 hours to maintain ADA and WCAG compliance within any new content or pages that are added.

Price

Automation allows DentalROI to significantly cut the costs of becoming compliant, and ultimately make the process of web accessibility, accessible. DentalROI's Accessibility costs as low as $49 per month per domain for websites under 1,000 pages, with additional plans for websites with more pages.

How Does the Technology Work?

DentalROI's Accessibility utilizes two applications that together achieve compliance. The accessibility interface is responsible for all the UI and design-related adjustments, while the AI-powered background process handles the more complex requirements - optimization for screen-readers and for keyboard navigation.

The accessibility interface covers about 30% of the requirements and include adjustments for readable fonts, sizing, spacing, color contrasts, cursors, emphases and more. Users have the choice between accessibility profiles, standalone adjustments, or both. The profiles bundle together common accessibility combinations that together address a specific disability, such as visual impairments, epilepsy, or ADHD.
